Ces \u00ab&nbsp;chemins qui marchent&nbsp;\u00bb, tout trac\u00e9s et plus s\u00fbrs que les routes, ne n\u00e9cessitent qu&rsquo;un entretien limit\u00e9 et cr\u00e9ent des relations faciles avec les provinces \u00e9loign\u00e9es. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Le tonnage transport\u00e9 est plus important que par terre et le co\u00fbt en est moins \u00e9lev\u00e9. Le g\u00e9ographe grec STRABON situe, au V<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle avant J-C, le port de Corbilo dans son embouchure&nbsp;; et les sables de Luynes, de Saumur, des Ponts-de-C\u00e9 et Ancenis ont restitu\u00e9 des traces d&rsquo;appontements, des armes, des objets en bronze et des statues.<br>A Tours, les fouilles effectu\u00e9es en 1979-80 ont mis en \u00e9vidence, place de la Victoire, un long mur parall\u00e8le \u00e0 la Loire large d&rsquo;1,60&nbsp;m et haut de 2,50&nbsp;m reposant sur des pieux de ch\u00eane et bord\u00e9 d&rsquo;un espace combl\u00e9 de sable et d&rsquo;alluvions, servant \u00e0 la fois de quai et de protection contre les crues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Avec la conqu\u00eate romaine, l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 ne fit que cro\u00eetre. Les mariniers se group\u00e8rent alors en une corporation puissante&nbsp;: les \u00ab&nbsp;<em>Nautae Ligerici<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb, dont les ports principaux devaient se situer \u00e0 Nantes (<em>Portus Namnetum<\/em>) et \u00e0 Chalon-sur-Sa\u00f4ne. A l&rsquo;antique trafic de l&rsquo;\u00e9tain et du sel, provenant de Bretagne, allait se superposer celui des marbres<sup><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/sup>, des meules<strong><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/strong>, des poteries, de la vaisselle en c\u00e9ramique sigill\u00e9e<strong><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/strong>, du vin italien et de l&rsquo;huile ib\u00e9rique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La d\u00e9cadence romaine fit rentrer dans la nuit la navigation lig\u00e9rienne. La p\u00e9riode sombre, qui s&rsquo;\u00e9tend du V<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup> au X<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, connut vraisemblablement un commerce exsangue. Gr\u00e9goire de Tours \u00e9voque un marchand tourangeau dont le vin descend la Loire en barque, mais on ne conserve que le souvenir des luttes sous les murailles des villes, des incursions de drakkars normands porteurs de ruines et de morts. Les rives des fleuves vont se h\u00e9risser de forteresses pour surveiller la voie d&rsquo;eau, encourageant la perception de nombreux p\u00e9ages<strong><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/strong>, d&rsquo;o\u00f9 une multitude d&rsquo;entraves \u00e0 la libre circulation qui se prolongeront durant des si\u00e8cles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">A partir du XI<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle, l&rsquo;ordre se r\u00e9tablit dans les pays de la Loire. Le fleuve devient la grande voie de p\u00e9n\u00e9tration de la Bretagne au Massif Central. Neuf ponts franchissent alors la Loire moyenne \u00e0 Gien, Sully (avant 1089), Orl\u00e9ans, Beaugency, Blois (avant 1089), Amboise, Tours (1034), les Ponts-de-C\u00e9 et Chalonnes (1140).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image caption-align-center is-style-zoooom\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.tourainegenealogie.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/HENRI-II-739x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3629346\" width=\"132\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.tourainegenealogie.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/HENRI-II-739x1024.jpg 739w, https:\/\/blog.tourainegenealogie.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/HENRI-II-217x300.jpg 217w, https:\/\/blog.tourainegenealogie.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/HENRI-II-768x1064.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.tourainegenealogie.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/HENRI-II.jpg 1083w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 132px) 100vw, 132px\" \/><figcaption><em>Henri II Plantagen\u00eat<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Puis Henri&nbsp;II&nbsp;Plantagen\u00eat, en faisant construire en 1160 les premi\u00e8res lev\u00e9es, inaugure la s\u00e9rie des grands am\u00e9nagements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/strong> comme ceux retrouv\u00e9s \u00e0 Ch\u00e2tigny, commune de Fondettes.<br><strong><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/strong> une quinzaine en lave d&rsquo;Auvergne dans le quartier de l&rsquo;H\u00f4tel de ville \u00e0 Tours.<br><strong><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/strong> de Lezoux (Puy-de-D\u00f4me) ou de la Graufesenque (Aveyron).<br><strong><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/strong> plus de 200 au XIV<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle sur la Loire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">o 0 o<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:13px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#0c6e88;font-size:24px\"><strong>L&rsquo;\u00e2ge d&rsquo;or de la batellerie sur la Loire<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Devant le d\u00e9veloppement de l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 commerciale et la cupidit\u00e9 des seigneurs p\u00e9agers, les voituriers par eau n&rsquo;ont qu&rsquo;un moyen&nbsp;: s&rsquo;associer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Retrouvant l&rsquo;esprit de l&rsquo;ancienne corporation des nautes, ils cr\u00e9ent la \u00ab&nbsp;<em>Communaut\u00e9 des Marchands fr\u00e9quentant la rivi\u00e8re de Loire et des fleuves descendant en icelle<\/em>&nbsp;\u00bb. Approuv\u00e9e par le roi Philippe le Bel, c&rsquo;est elle qui va assurer durant quatre si\u00e8cles la prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9 de la navigation et du commerce, gestionnaire de l&rsquo;entretien et de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de la voie d&rsquo;eau, de l&rsquo;assurance des marchandises comme des secours apport\u00e9s aux victimes des naufrages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">C&rsquo;est l&rsquo;\u00e2ge d&rsquo;or de la batellerie et la Loire est devenue <em>\u00ab&nbsp;le plus grand fleuve et le plus important du royaume, assurant la meilleure partie du commerce de la France&nbsp;\u00bb<\/em>&nbsp;<strong><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/strong>. En Touraine, le Cher et la Vienne contribuaient \u00e0 cette prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">On s&rsquo;int\u00e9resse aussi aux voyageurs&nbsp;: d\u00e8s 1737 des coches d&rsquo;eau s&rsquo;\u00e9tablissent. La concurrence est vive. Ce sont d&rsquo;abord les intendants des turcies et lev\u00e9es qui vont prendre en main la r\u00e9fection totale des lev\u00e9es en 1668, puis COLBERT va d\u00e9poss\u00e9der la Communaut\u00e9 de son ind\u00e9pendance en lui retirant le droit de bo\u00eete et en la transformant en organisme consultatif. On songea alors au seul recours possible&nbsp;: le creusement d&rsquo;un canal lat\u00e9ral. La loi de 1836 l&rsquo;autorisa mais les fonds permettant sa r\u00e9alisation ne furent jamais r\u00e9unis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Pendant ce temps, les routes s&rsquo;am\u00e9lioraient et se multipliaient, r\u00e9pondant \u00e0 une nouvelle conception des transports bas\u00e9e sur la rapidit\u00e9 et le respect d&rsquo;horaires pr\u00e9cis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">En 1829, les premiers bateaux \u00e0 vapeur apparurent&nbsp;: l&rsquo;Aigle (1832), le Vulcain (1834), les Hirondelles (1836), les Inexplosibles (1838). Ces bateaux effectu\u00e8rent 582 voyages d&rsquo;Orl\u00e9ans \u00e0 Nantes et 292 d&rsquo;Angers \u00e0 Nevers en 1842.<br>On comptait alors 4&nbsp;compagnies de bateaux \u00e0 vapeur&nbsp;: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>les paquebots d&rsquo;Orl\u00e9ans \u00e0 Nantes&nbsp;;<\/li><li>les Inexplosibles de la Haute-Loire, de Moulins \u00e0 Orl\u00e9ans&nbsp;;<\/li><li>ceux de la Basse-Loire d&rsquo;Orl\u00e9ans \u00e0 Angers&nbsp;;<\/li><li>enfin 4&nbsp;remorqueurs&nbsp;: la Gironde, le Loiret, le Rh\u00f4ne-et-le-Rhin et le Commerce Saumur.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Ils pouvaient transporter de 150 \u00e0 250 voyageurs \u00e0 la vitesse de 8&nbsp;km\/h \u00e0 la mont\u00e9e et 18&nbsp;km\/h \u00e0 la descente.<br>Ce succ\u00e8s encouragea d&rsquo;autres constructions&nbsp;: en 1855, plus de 10&nbsp;000&nbsp;bateaux circulaient sur la Loire, le trafic atteignait celui de la Seine et \u00e9tait 20&nbsp;fois sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 celui du Rhin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Peine perdue&nbsp;! La vapeur, qui avait vaincu la voile, quitta les bateaux pour le chemin de fer&nbsp;: en 1843 celui-ci arrivait \u00e0 Orl\u00e9ans&nbsp;; en 1846 \u00e0 Tours&nbsp;; en 1848 \u00e0 Angers.<br>Le tonnage transport\u00e9 par eau chuta rapidement&nbsp;: 628&nbsp;000&nbsp;tonnes en 1850, 288&nbsp;000 en 1859 et seulement 31&nbsp;000 en 1892.
